Sustainability, New Educators, and a New Yard! It’s All Happening at Lizards
27th July 2017

Lizards Early Learning Centre, Brisbane, has been very busy over the last couple of months. With sustainability projects, new team members and some celebratory days, there’s been plenty to keep everyone at the centre busy!
Recently, the centre has welcomed a new Early Childhood Teacher who have been running the centre’s QLD Approved Kindergarten Programs. According to Centre Manager, Britta Short, “The parents are very excited to have them come on board at Lizards to provide education for the children in their final year before they start primary school.”
They’ll be joining a large group of dedicated educators who have been with the centre anywhere between three days and 10 years, all of whom have a passion for learning in the early years.
There’s also been some positive changes in regards to sustainability at Lizards. “We have been working on creating a more inviting sustainable environment in our outdoors space through the investment of new garden beds along the verandah areas with agave plants that have been donated by the families and educators from Lizards Early Learning Centre.”
“We are a large centre with up to 150 children per day so we have a large outdoor space which is used most of the day as we have a lot of indoor outdoor play so that the children are able to choose where they would like to play and learn.”
Beyond the fantastic new garden beds, the large external environment at the centre has seen some other changes including two loose parts areas for the children to be creative in as well as space for construction. There has been even more updates to the outdoor yard in recent months which will be revealed around Christmas – this is something that everyone in the centre is excited about. We can’t wait to show you the results of the updates!
Let’s be honest… All this excitement would make anyone hungry. At Lizards Early Learning Centre, they provide healthy and nutritious morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea to all the children and are welcome to bring their own breakfast in the mornings to have before 7.15am.
The centre has just observed NAIDOC Week, Pyjama Day, Footy Colours Day and have many more fun events planned later in the year. No day is the same at Lizards!
