Educator in the Spotlight: Tayla Cooper from Newstead

4th October 2017

Guardian Early Learning Centre – Newstead is a bright and welcoming childcare centre in Brisbane with a team of caring early learning professionals. A perfect example of our passionate educator team is Tayla Cooper, who recently won Educator of the Year at our QLD Educators Awards Night.

We take a few minutes with Tayla to find out a bit more about her career background and why she loves her job and discover she’s a bit of a whizz in the kitchen!

Tell us a bit about your career background.

I have been working in the industry for the past five years. The first four years I spent working in the toddler room of a privately owned centre. Last year I made the move to Guardian and I have been working as a Lead Educator of the 0-2 space ever since.

How long have you been at Guardian Newstead?

Just over 12 months, I started just a few weeks after opening. 🙂

What’s the best part of your job?

The interactions that I build with the children and their families. I love being able to watch the children grow and develop their own sense of identity. I especially love planning experiences and provocations to ignite their creativity and sense of wonder.

Why did you decide to pursue early childhood education?

I am the oldest of four and have always enjoyed caring for my siblings and watching them grow. During high school my Mum was the director of a service so I began to do some work experience in the toddler room and absolutely loved it!

What do you love most about Guardian Newstead?

The incredible and supportive team that I get to work with every day, and the amazing children and families we have at our service.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

To be able to be in two places at once!

Tell us something that most people don’t know about you?

I am also studying a Bachelor of Psychology and Business which I am due to finish in a few weeks… Yay!

What’s your signature dish?

I absolutely love cooking, so my favourite dish to cook would probably be gnocchi or making drip cakes for my family and friends.
